Famous the world over, Windsor Castle and LEGOLAND® are a must see, but why not add Changing the Guard, Ascot Racecourse, not forgetting excellent shopping, fine dining, sports and leisure activities! Over December join in with some of the exciting festive events and add them to your itinerary for the perfect short break?

One of the fantastic events that you will see in Windsor this December will be the Living Advent Calendar, inspired by an original idea from Stockholm, this collaborative project run with Windsor and Eton Town partnership, Windsor Observer and 24 local businesses, all to provide live entertainment every evening from 1 – 24 December 2013.  Like a children’s advent calendar, a different window or door is opened at 6:15pm promptly, a 15 minute performance is given to the audience assembled outside each participating business. Performances will range from carols, poetry readings, creative arts, sketches and dancing – all with a special Christmas theme.

As 2013 draws to a close, Ascot Racecourse’s Christmas Meeting provides the chance to enjoy a day of quality jump racing over two days, 20-21 December.  On the Saturday, the whole family can join in some festive fun at the fairground, meet Father Christmas and even join in the carol singing!

If we haven’t spoilt you with enough choice this December why not try the Windsor on Ice experience? Ice skate in the beautiful surroundings of Windsor Castle and the Windsor Coronation fountain. Sheltered under a well-lit festive marquee the ice rink holds many exciting attractions. This year the skating paradise will hold a festive food court, so non skaters can relax and stay warm while watching their family have fun on the ice rink; enjoy a fresh coffee or sample our festive food and drink. Don’t miss out, the ice rink will be open until the 5th of January – so get your skates on and enjoy this icy wonder.

With all these great events your stopover to Windsor will soon turn into a short break – this means you will need a perfect place to stay, why not try a  Les Routiers listed establishment such as The Christopher Hotel, this  exquisite boutique style hotel formerly a coaching house, situated in the centre of historic Eton.
