Jeake’s House has been presented the award from Alistair Sawday’s Special Places to Stay guide for ‘Best Old Favourite’.
Jeake’s House Hotel stands on one of the most beautiful, ancient, cobbled streets of Rye in East Sussex. Dating back to 1689, the building has been lavishly decorated to recapture the feel of history yet maintains a high standard of modern comfort and relaxed hospitality. An award winning hotel, the rooms have been named after literary and artistic figures that have visited Rye. Each bedroom has been individually restored to create its own special atmosphere, combining traditional elegance and luxury with modern amenities. Every room has a direct access dial telephone, television, hairdryer and hospitality tray. Most have an en suite bathrooms and all provide luxuriously fluffy towels, face cloths and dressing gowns to provide a wonderfully comfortable stay for guests.
The dramatic bar provides a comfortable and welcoming place to sit and relax before going out for the evening, and the perfect place for a drink before you retire for the night. The granite-topped honesty bar is open at all times exclusively for Jeake’s House guests. A folder of sample menus from local restaurants is available to help you find the best food. The characterful parlour contains some of the most elegant features of Jeake’s House and in the winter, the fire is constantly alight. Plenty of board games and cards are provided to while away a pleasant afternoon. The square piano is a delight to the eye and we are always pleased to hear people playing it.
The extensive breakfast menu created with local ingredients is served in the galleried dining room, which was once the chapel of a Quaker meeting house. Plump for the traditional English full breakfast or sample one of the alternative options available, such as Scottish wild smoked salmon with scrambled eggs, or Devilled kidneys on buttered toast.
